Apresentado pelo ator de filmes de projeção internacional, Samuel L. Jackson, e produzido pelo produtor executivo vencedor do Emmy Award, Mark Burnett e com imagens de pré-estréia mundial de lançamentos altamente aguardados, o décimo evento promovido pela Spike TV, "Video Game Awards" (# VGA) provou ser a maior noite de jogos existente, de fato o Oscar do Videogame. Artistas e representantes da indústria se reuniram nesta sexta - feira 7 de dezembro, às 21h nos estudios da Sony Pictures, em Los Angeles, para premiar os melhores jogos de 2012, segundo a critica especializada. Os prêmios foram dados ao vivo e transmitido nos sites Spike.com, GameTrailers.com e pela primeira vez, em consoles Xbox através do Xbox Live. Alem dos canais de tv pago Spike, Spike HD e MTV2.
Alem de trailers ineditos de games como The Last Of Us e Gears of War, o evento contou com varias celebridades, como parte do elenco da serie The Walking Dead da Fox, a atriz Jessica Alba e o rapper Snoop Dog, dentre muitos outros. Isso tem o objetivo de chamar foco da midia ao evento, e consequentemente expandir a industria de jogos, comunicando com outros tipos de entrenimento e conquistando novos jogadores.
